FIRE & FLOOD RESTORATION

More efficient and time saving in remediation and restoration efforts than manual cleaning methods, General Abrasives Co. Inc provides dry ice blasting in the wake of fire and flood damages. Quickly and effectively removing contaminants, dry ice blasting can help to reduce the damages caused by prolonged exposure.

While the initial damages are caused by fire, those damages are compounded by the water and chemicals used to extinguish the flames. Lingering smoke and soot can cause lasting damages if not addressed as quickly as possible. Versus traditional cleaning and remediation methods, including sand blasting, water blasting, soda blasting, hand cleaning, or solvents and chemicals, dry ice blasting is non-conductive and non-abrasive, in addition to being non-toxic and producing no secondary waste.

BENEFITS OF DRY ICE BLASTING FOR RESTORATION

An effective fire damage restoration service, dry ice blasting provides cleaning and sanitation as well as deodorization for furniture, curtains, linens, rugs and other items that have been salvaged after the fire. In addition to moveable items, this service is also effective in remediating damages to the building’s structural components.

Dry ice blasting eliminates timely manual labor in the remediation process, in addition to eliminating the production of secondary waste. Delicate surfaces are safe with this non-abrasive cleaning method. Coupled with the fact that this method leaves the surface completely dry and free of residue, you are able to save valuable time on your jobsite. A chemical-free process, the non-abrasive qualities of dry ice make it suitable for the precision cleaning necessitated by historical and fire restoration processes.

HOW IT WORKS

Through the use of dry ice pellets and a pressurized stream, fire and water damage restoration utilize dry ice blasting as a moisture-free alternative to removing contaminants left after a fire or flood. Using pressure blasted particles of solid carbon dioxide (commonly called dry ice), instead of using small, abrasive particles for blasting, dry ice blasting uses a pressurized stream dry ice pellets that are initially solid and instantaneously turn to gas upon impact, thereby removing soot, odors and other residues caused by fire and smoke. Dry ice blasting provides customized cleaning solutions with adjustable streams and PSIs ranging from 60 to 250 PSI.

APPLICATIONS OF DRY ICE BLASTING

In addition, dry ice blasting is highly effective in removing mold spores, and is approved by the EPA, USDA, and FDA. In conjunction with certified mold inspectors and indoor air quality testing, we can effectively conduct mold remediation reducing the need for biocides and encapsulation in some instances. Using HEPA filters to contain any debris blown loose during dry ice blasting, this system reduces the need for sanding and scraping, thereby reducing the amount of airborne contaminants.

Common Surfaces that Benefit from Dry Ice Blasting:

  • Wood
  • Brick
  • Metal
  • Concrete
  • Upholstery

With the ability to access and clean hard to reach areas without damaging the surface integrity of the material, contaminants are forcibly blown off the surfaces they are attached to, leaving a clean, dry substrate. This concentrated stream is effective in removing damages from the tight angles of trusses, around nails, wiring and plumbing without causing additional damages.

Gentler on wood, stone, stucco, concrete and many other building elements, dry ice blasting is a proven alternative to sanding, scraping, or chemical removal processes. For stubborn stains and odors, a gentle abrasive can be added to the dry ice stream when higher pressure does not do the job. Using less abrasive media than sandblasting, dry ice blasting can be enhanced with addition of glass beads created from recycled bottles or crushed garnet.
